I want to participate in SERVE Day but I am not in an Anchor Group. How do I find an Anchor Group?

Most groups are open to new members throughout the semester. Our Groups Directory can help you find a group that fits your interest, location and time preference. Learn more about small groups at www.myanchorchurch.com/groups

Will there be SERVE projects available for those NOT in a small group?

Yes, we will have many projects that you can participate in on SERVE day. Many of the Anchor Groups have space for you to join them on their project on Serve Day. These opportunities will be posted on the Projects pages by name. Feel free to invite your friends and family to sign up for a project with you!

Does our SERVE project have to be in McKinney?

We know that our Anchor Church family is spread out all over Collin County, but this year we feel called to focus on serving the city of McKinney specifically with the hopes of creating the most impact in a saturated area as possible. If you absolutely cannot determine a project within the limits of McKinney proper, we completely understand. If you aren't sure about your project's location, please contact Pastor Matt Braun.

I want our group to plan our own project. How do I plan a SERVE project?

Get creative! Assess people and their needs in your neighborhood and around your community. Perhaps there is a widow, single mother, or elderly person that could be assisted by painting their house, cutting grass, or cleaning up the yard. Firefighters, police officers, school resource officers, nursing home residents, assisted living homes, and local business owners are all great people to reach out to and find a way to SERVE!

Should I communicate to the Anchor which SERVE day project our group is planning on our own?

Yes, we definitely would like know about what project your group is participating in.  Please email Pastor Matt Braun with your project idea and whether or not you would like it posted on the Project Site so that others can sign up for your project.

Who pays the costs associated with the SERVE project (supplies, travel expenses, etc.)?

Each group project is responsible for all of the supplies and costs associated with their SERVE project (unless otherwise noted in the description). Spend time determining the scope of your project and plan work based on your group size and commitment level.

What should I bring on SERVE day?

Plan on bringing any personal items you may need, like your SERVE Day T-shirt, sunscreen, drinking water, tennis shoes, a hat, etc., along with any items pertaining to your service project such as rakes, gloves, lawnmowers, tarps, work tools, etc. For projects requiring physical labor, work clothes are a good idea. We recommend not wearing jewelry. Water will be provided on SERVE day but feel free to bring your own water bottles. For lunch after, it would be a great idea to bring a camping chair, as tables will fill up quick!

What if it rains?

If you have an outside project, make plans to have an inclement weather option in mind. Some suggestions are to visit a nursing home, plan a rescheduled date or join up with another group. Your Project Leader will communicate any rain plans for your project.

Do volunteers receive a Serve Day T-Shirt?

Yes! Every volunteer will receive a Serve Day t-shirt. When you register for a project, you will indicate your tee shirt size at that time.  These can be picked up at the Serve Day Booth or on the morning of Serve Day.  If you are planning a project on your own that is not in the registry, please let Pastor Matt Braun know how many shirts you will need and indicate the sizes.

Can children participate in Serve Day?

Yes! We highly encourage families to serve together. Because each project is different our list of projects on our website will indicate which projects are kid friendly (ages 5 and up). Children MUST serve with their parents for the duration of Serve Day.
