“Remember Your WHY”
Any of you have kids, grandkids, nieces or nephews who have phones, video games, or electronic/media toys?
Tonight, we were discussing with our kids the Anchor 21 Days of Prayer & Fasting schedule for tomorrow & Tuesday.
The things on the schedule for them to give up on Monday & Tuesday this week are: “TV, DVD’s, Gaming Devices & videos – (Colossians 1:10 // Philippians 3:13-14)”
My son, Hayden said “Can we swap Monday & Tuesday for another day? I was wanting to make a video with my phone tomorrow & Tuesday.”
In other words, “I want to build my fast around convenience and my top priority in this deal is SURVIVING 21 days with as little pain as possible!”
I think that’s really how many of us are, right? Often our WHY & greatest priority is just surviving.
What if it were possible to live with a greater purpose than survival?
Did you know that life is WAY more fun and fulfilling when it’s connected to a HUGE “why”… or great priority?
You know, there’s a reason God designed priorities. There’s a big one that fuels every other motive we have in life. The top priority & First Love is aligning our lives to experience the best personal relationship with God as we can.
The greatest ways that I know of to experience a personal relationship with God are:
1. Make your quiet times count
2. Carry your quiet times over into every other area – where you’re constantly aware of God’s presence
3. Have awesome fun with people and stay thankful in all circumstances
4. Work really hard at whatever you do and bring out the best in others along the way
5. Help people experience the best God has to offer – as if Jesus Himself were on your team.
6. Don’t let anyone or anything put you in a box or shut you down from becoming who God made you to be.
7. Use your gifts and platform to intentionally influence people to know Christ and experience the Holy Spirit in their life.
Fasting is a way to keep your “Why” in front of you daily.
Why do you do what you do? Fasting helps you keep that clear.
The kids memory verse for Tuesday is
“I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
This was Paul’s top priority.
This was his Big Why!
He would say, “My big WHY in life is to know CHRIST & the power of his rising.”
What about you?
What drives you these days?
What occupies your mind & time?
What stirs anxiety & fear?
What motivates you to work hard?
Here it is ….
Whatever you do — in talking or in working – do it for the glory of God and stay in the business of changing lives!
What you do matters.
Your service matters.
Your helping people matters.
Your business matters.
Your family leadership matters.
Stay refreshed. Stay strong. Keep your BIG “why” in front of you.
Holy Spirit, teach me to hear your voice when I schedule my time & do business & life with you. Train my senses to recognize your voice & to know what you are leading me to do. Thank you for counseling me in my fast, prayers & service. In Jesus Name, amen.
