Word of Wisdom – by June Moyer – Anchor Kids Pastor

Have you ever thought about what you would say if asked the question, “If you could have anything what would it be?” Maybe it would be a long life, health for your kids, money, a good career; the answers are endless. Now, what if the person asking is God? Not only does He ask, “What do you want?” but He follows it with, “Ask, and I will give it to you.” Wow, could you imagine? Of all people He is the only person that you know could actually deliver.

This amazing thing happened to King Solomon. In a dream, the Lord asked him that very question. You may think he would have asked for wealth, long life, or a bigger kingdom but out of everything he requested wisdom. As king he felt the overwhelming responsibility of leading the people in his care and he knew he could only do this well with wisdom from God. Because wisdom is what he asked for, God gave it to him. King Solomon knew that out of everything he could have, wisdom was the greatest gift he could receive.

Think about it, how many times have you felt you needed wisdom? I know I have needed it so many times in my own life in raising my children, my marriage, having the right words to say to a hurting friend, knowing what job to take, where to live, what to buy and not buy, how to deal with family issues… The examples go on and on.

If you ever find yourself feeling the same way, I have great news for you. We can ask for wisdom, too.

James 1:5 says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”

This wisdom is a gift of the Spirit. God knew that we would all face times in our lives when we would feel overwhelmed by what was happening and the responsibilities we carry. Do you need God’s wisdom today in your life? Is there something you are facing that you just don’t know what to do or say? If you need wisdom today, the Holy Spirit wants to give it to you. All you have to do is ask.

Holy Spirit, thank you that you give us wisdom when we ask for it. I ask that you will give me wisdom in what I am facing. I open my heart to receive from you today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
